Commercial Theater Jazz is a new drop-in class Sarah developed with the goal of offering an on-camera class from a theater dance perspective, created specifically for theater jazz dancers. It is an opportunity for students to gain confidence dancing for the camera. Sarah utilizes her professional experience working in television (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Physical, etc.) and other on-camera projects, combined with her skills as a teacher and videographer, to create a safe space where theater jazz dancers can prepare themselves for professional on-camera work. 

 

Each class begins with a technique based warm up and culminates in learning a Theater Jazz combination that is then filmed individually and/or in small groups, depending on class size. Students receive constructive, on-the-spot feedback that can be applied in the classroom, on set, and beyond. The class is designed to push dancers outside of their comfort zone. Working directly with the camera is an important aspect of the class experience and all students get the chance to be filmed.
